"Fast-paced history of a forgotten Belgian colony is written from both a Flemish and a literary perspective. In Pt. 1 author relates how financial mismanagement and a high mortality rate doomed the attempt to establish a Belgian foothold on the Central American coast. Pts. 2 and 3 focus on a journey of a Belgian delegation to the ruins of the colony in 1939 and on a trip by the author in 1997.
